BEAUTIFYING LINCOLN BLVD

This is reaching back…2009! I designed this mural inspired by the fabric design of William Morris. I painted the unfriendly red bricks grey and then painted the design…and the sign! in white. It was a thing getting the sides of the bricks painted, they were very high relief from the grout. But it made for a great effect afterwards. The painting really changed the building. I met a great pal and collaborator doing this mural, Todd E. He stoped to introduce himself and we painted a few buildings together later on. I feel like painting some buildings again!

WATER

A couple of weeks ago I joined a group of amazing folks for a weekend dialogue about how to talk to the community and change planning and legislation to daylight creeks in the Ballona watershed. Yeah, it kind of blew my mind brainstorming with such cool and committed people...Sierra Club, LA Audubon, Baldwin Hills Conservancy, Save Ballona and Grassroots Coalition....among others.  It comes down to this....if we don't green our city with more parks to support the watershed and ground water, make it a literally more permeable place, we will dry up. A good example of how real conservation is social justice and wildlife protection working in tandem.

MODERN HIKER

Modern Hiker Magazine is an awesome on line resource for getting out in So Cal in the canyons and mountains. Shawnte Salabert came out to the Rancho in Tujunga and interviewed me for the Trailblazer series that is a cool roving part of the magazine. I am in great company and am honored to be a Modern Hiker Trailblazer. Check out the article here>>>>   https://modernhiker.com/trailblazers-elkpen/
